BRYAN STEWART ROSE

Son of Halmar John Rose and Birdie May Cunningham Rose

Bryan was born October 11, 1959, in Oakland, California. His mother had a rough time carrying him and had to be rushed to the hospital. No policeman was available and Birdie had a hard time to keep from delivery until they reached the hospital. Bryan was her largest baby, weighing 8 pounds 13 ½ ounces and 22 ½ inches long. He had black curly hair.

Bryan was a joy to raise. He loved school, he loved playing with other kids and he loved going to church. He enjoyed scouting. On his first day of school there was a boy who was crying because he didn't want to be left there. He put his arm around the little boy and said, "My name is Bryan Rose. What's your name?" The little boy told him and they became buddies and their mothers became good friends.

Bryan didn't like to try new food. One day at his friend's home he had a tuna sandwich and another day a grilled cheese sandwich. Later he went home and told his mother he would like her to make them for him. She had done this before but he wouldn't try it at home.

He invited his friend to go to church with him. He did and then invited Bryan to go to his church with him. After they got out of church the Priest saw Bryan and asked him if he was a new boy in the neighborhood. He told him he was glad to see him in church. Bryan told him he was a Mormon. The Priest asked him what he believed in. Bryan quoted the first two articles of faith. The priest was amazed and decided the children in his church should be able to give answers like Bryan did. Birdie also taught this young man's family how to pray. They needed it for a school report in the Catholic school.

Bryan liked to ride motorcycles, going camping with his family, went to Scout camps, he sang in the balcony choir in Temple pageant. He was on the church softball team, graduated from seminary, had 100% attendance. He went back to Salt Lake City to a Mutual Seminar and had a desire to go on a mission.

He graduated from San Lorenzo High School. He went to work for a Burglar Alarm System Company in downtown Oakland. He met Debra Ann Saylor going to and from work on Bart. Debbie was going to a business college at the time. They were married at the rose garden in Oakland on June 12, 1982 and resided in San Leandro. Bryan worked for an automotive accessories company and Debbie worked at a telecommunications company.

They moved to Castro Valley in 1984. Their first child, James Arthur Rose, was born December 18, 1987, in Castro Valley, California. James was a wonderful addition to the family and is much loved by all. The family then moved to Debbie's family home in Oakland in 1988.

In 1990, they were blessed with the birth of Amanda Marie Rose on June 11. She rounded out our family. At this time, Debbie left her job to stay home with the children. The family once again moved to Castro Valley in 1995.

Bryan has worked with scouting as long as James was old enough to be a scout. He takes the children camping. James is quite a fisherman. Amanda takes dancing lessons and now her grandmother Saylor is giving her piano lessons. She is on a girl's basketball team. They belong to the Luthern Church.

Today we are busy. The children are very involved in their schools and both participate in many sports. Bryan currently works for Automobile Burglar Alarm System. Debbie works for the Castro Valley School Board with impaired children. She has young adults from 18 to 22 years old. She teaches them how to use the bus, how to shop, get right change, escorts them to Mc Donalds to see if they can order, etc., right. She also teaches them cooking and other necessary things. She says they are the most loving and compassionate children she has ever been around.
