Most records were burned in a Dublin fire. A researcher found many McMullins located in this area. Possibly these people are distant relatives or even close family members at that time.

The tithe books show the amount of land farmed and the tithe payable to the established church in ratio to the produce of the land. Only farmers were included and this money had to go to the established church even if they were not a member of it.

From a history of the Parish of Derrykeighan by Thomas Carnac James Moore of Ballydvity gave leases in 1766-67 for lives renewable in the Townland of Carnfeogue to amongst others Eiver O'Mullan.
From an old map of 1805 we discovered a Daniel Mc Mullin farming 31 acres 3 perches 21 rods in the Townland of Killyraven. This townland actually lies in Ballymoney Parish but borders the Southern boundary of Derrykeighan Parish.
Ephraim Mc Mullan married Rose Palmer, an Irish lassie born about 1787 in Coleraine, Ulster Col., Northern Ireland. Researchers have found many Palmers around the Coleraine area.
James and Thomas lived in Antrim Town and Parish, Thomas Palmer lived in Ballinderry Parish, Portmore Park.

The researchers who did this work states their feelings about Ephraim Mc Mullan and the movements of Rose Palmer's family. They are almost certain that the George Palmer found in 1617 and in 1630 living in the Parish of Macosquin would be our ancestor. Also the Parish where they found an Ephraim McMullen living in 1827, also much earlier and also in surrounding parishes the name Daniel Mc Mullen kept reappearing.
The Parish of Macosquin, where they found George Palmer in 1630 farming an acre of land, lies in the County of Londonderry just south of Coleraine, where they searched the only early registers for Rose's baptism. They are far from complete as early as that date and had no success finding any records. It is interesting that researchers have placed the McMullen's around the adjacent Parishes, where they found the Palmer's indexed (and also further south in Co, Londonderry) but no records of the McMullen's have been found.
There were McMullen's living across the north coast of Co. Antrim, from east of Ballycastle to the edge of Coleraine Parish, and also southward down the Antrim bank of the river Bann as far as Ballymena. However, the only Parish where we found an Ephraim is just south of Coleraine.
The McMullen family have certainly lived since the middle 17th century from Ballycastle to Derrykeighan Parishes, so it is perfectly possible for Rose to have met someone living comparatively close.
Another interesting fact in searching this genealogy is: In those days the first born son was always named after his maternal grandfather. For example: Ephraim's first born son is named Daniel, so he would be named after Ephraim's father which should tell us Ephraim's father was named Daniel.
Now back to the history of Ephraim and Rose. Ephraim's family members were very devout Catholics. Not long after they married they moved to Dunbarton, Scotland. This is where their first son, Daniel, was born 2 March, 1819. Peter was born in 1821-22, Suzan 1823-24 and James in 1825.
Daniel left home when he was 15 to be an apprentice as a blacksmith. He went to Liverpool, England.
Little more is know about Ephraim and Rose but they must have moved to England to be near Daniel and his family. Ephraim died 3 February 1861 at the Union Workhouse Mill Road, Everton, West Derby district, England. He was 78 years old and was a general laborer at the time. He must have died at work. He died of mortification of the leg certified. (Gangrene). Records have been searched for Rose's death but have not been found to my knowledge. It was just two years after his father's death that Daniel left England to go to America.
