HALMAR JOHN ROSE III

Son of Halmar John Rose and Birdie May Cunningham

Halmar was born March 25, 1946, at Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, California about one month after his father returned from overseas.. He was the 2nd child and the 1st boy in the family. He was a large baby, 21 ½ inches long, weighed 8 pounds 13 ounces. He had a hard time breathing. The doctor said it was mucus in his lungs but it turned out to be asthma.

When they brought him home, his sister, Winifred, climbed in the basket to give him away because Grandma Bohns had told her now there was a boy in the family that her nose would be out of joint. This soon changed and Winnie loved him.

At the hospital Bompa, Hal's father and Fran, Hal's brother came to the hospital to see the baby and when they asked them to see the Rose baby they asked which one was the father and they both said, "me". They started calling him Buddy because that is what they called his father. Birdie put her foot down and said no so to get around it Bompa started calling Komuteso.

Hal was baptized November 6, 1954 into the LDS Church and went as far as a Priest in the Priesthood.

Hal has not been too well. Was in and out of doctor offices. He would sit for hours in a corner playing with newspapers. He loved to throw the ball and have someone get it.

He loved to walk outside and play so Birdie put a harness on him and tied him to the clothesline so he would not run away. He would go to the length of close line and scream as he wanted to get farther. One of her neighbors turned Birdie in for cruelty to a child. There were no fences and Birdie didn't know what else to do. The police understood the problem but told her not to do it again.

He was good in school but his asthma gave him many problems.

Hal helped the family get their big display at Christmas time built and painted. He was very artistic and loved to help.

He quit school in his senior year but he went and took the EGD test and got his graduation certificate. He went to primary in his younger years and to Sunday School.

He went to welding school and then got a job welding at the same company as his father worked in sheet metal.

He married Carolyn Jean Alameda October 21, 1967. They had two children:

Halmar John IV born November 3, 1968, in San Leandro. He was baptized into the LDS church December 4, 1976.

Suzzanne Monett born December 15, 1970 in San Leandro. She was baptized also.

They were divorced May 14, 1977.

Hal is a trained welder. What he didn't learn in welding school, his father taught him and he was good at it, but it was not good for his asthma.

When his father began having strokes, he asked Hal to move back home to take care of the house and his mom, so he moved in with them.

He went to Chabot college and took up computers. Now he has been bit by the computer bug.
