Like the true church, we have the true family! If you are a Sessions in some way, shape or form, you consider it the best!
Our heritage is so full and rich of wonderful, strong and courageous people that we can’t help but feel of the great blessings that are ours because of those that came before us.
Being born under the covenant by wonderful parents, I consider my most significant gift. No greater blessing can one have than that. Family and family life is what our life is centered on. My earliest memories are going to visit grandparents, cousins and relatives. Meeting cousin after cousin, I began to feel I was related somehow to everyone.
My father who I consider the greatest person I know has been my best example. He truly is a light to follow. I know and love Heavenly Father better because of my earthly father. He is one who loves God above everything else and tries in every way to follow the Lord’s will. His love of this country is one that has given me reverence for it too. I have a great love for my dad and his example of how one should live. He takes great pride in his heritage, one that has flowed to; all of us, his children. He and my mom gave us a wonderful home. A safe place to be. Set the example of what a home life should be like.
We would consider our “dinnertime” together a highlight of our childhood memories. We would sometimes sit for hours after dinner and talk about anything. Most of the time we would end up with the “remember when” topics.
We as most families had our own language, our code. And to this day can say numerous things that are not meaningful to anyone but us! For example, white ones, voo voo, nishker, the worm, the grinch, oit fee, some, what gate, come with me to the monkey tree, tokens-the list could go on and on. We, to this day, can say one of these words and would just start cracking up with laughter.
We did laugh a lot at our house, (especially Scott’s explosive laugh), and at the expense of others. But, we knew at the end of the day, we had a great love for one another.
I am still trying to make my home today as good as it was when I was a child. Our holiday traditions were the best, especially Christmas. Dad nicknamed mom “Christmas Carol” because she did her best elf work then. Each Christmas tree, decoration, tinsel and presents were thoughtfully and carefully selected, placed and wrapped to what we considered perfection. Mom had the best Christmas goodies baked and placed in tins on the kitchen hutch to eat. She really set the Christmas tone and touch in our home.
Our home life was good, but as we all do, we grow up and marry.
I met my husband to be, Stanford D. Stoddard (Buddy) at Brigham Young University. The day I met him, I called him up that night and asked him out. It was the preference dance. We dated winter semester of 1979. He served a mission in Tokyo, Japan. Upon his return and four months later, we were married December 3, 1981 in the Oakland temple.
We have a wonderful life together. Very interesting and never a dull moment! We live in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and have been blessed with three beautiful children:
Sarah Elizabeth born 8-20-89
Scott Dietrich born 10-24-90
William Bennett born 11-7-94
They are the center and the joy of our lives. Each is so precious and wonderful to us. We, too, are trying to make our home just as wonderful a place to be as my childhood. The example of my parents was one to set the way. There is no greater joy or success than our family.
